Prepping for a Move in Winter

Winter is here!

Yes, it’s great to not be dripping with summer sweat but winter moving has a few new challenges. If you’re about to start packing, here are our best tips for preparing for a winter move.

prepping for a winter move

1. To keep beloved furniture from the elements, you can shrink wrap it or just cover it with a moving pad before it gets carried outside.

2. If you have new or freshly cleaned carpets, make a nice big staging area where guys can set down furniture without taking off their shoes. Some moving companies will use floor runners but we find that the muddy water can leak off the sides easily. Also, it’s too easy to step off the side of them. Ultimately, for a big move, its best to have two guys inside and two guys outside.

3. For suburban areas, especially the North Shore, be sure to have your sidewalks and driveways plowed and salted. A mover slipping and falling is everyone’s worst nightmare and, technically speaking, home owners and renters are responsible for injuries caused by unmaintained property.

4. If it’s pouring or snowing really hard, even the fastest movers can’t defy physics. Items will get wet but if you’ve packed everything in boxes properly, nothing will be damaged.

Now that you’re moved in stress-free you can unpack and enjoy your new home just in time for Spring!
