How to Pack the Most Difficult Belongings

Sure, packing heavy books and music collections can be tricky as you figure out how much is TOO much per box, but they certainly pack away nicely into a well-taped box.

When it comes to odd-sized or fragile belongings, it’s not so simple.

Here are some tips for how to pack tricky items to ensure they end up safe and sound at your new home!

PLANTS

We all adore our houseplants, and watching them grow and thrive. To ensure they make it to their new sun-filled windowsill, you do need to make the trip as gentle as possible. It is recommended you gently place them in open boxes and transport them yourselves to their new home. A moving truck is a busy and tightly-packed place, and they are more likely to get squished or jostled too much.

ARTWORK

Framing isn’t cheap, so it may take some time, but it is important to carefully pack your art. If your painting or print has a glass cover, take some masking tape and place an X across the glass. This will prevent the glass from moving around too much if it gets broken. Next, wrap the painting in several layers of plastic wrap from your kitchen. Finally, wrap up your artwork in layers of cushioning, like bubble wrap and some pillow cases or towels. Press down some crumpled up paper in the bottom of your box, place the artwork in and then fill the sides and the top with more bubble wrap or paper. Ensure the box is well sealed, and labeled FRAGILE, so your movers are aware of the important contents.

TELEVISIONS

All the popular televisions nowadays are quite large! They have gotten lighter over the years which is good news for our backs. 🙂
We do want to ensure the monitor/screen stays intact and perfect during a move though. If you happen to still have the box from when you purchased it, that is great! Many people do not keep old boxes though, so you need to wrap it up well with bubble wrap and blankets. If it’s a flat-panel TV, we will keep it in an upright position during moving to avoid pressure on the lightweight glass that could cause permanent damage.
